Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What ages do you treat in pediatric care?
We provide pediatric care from birth through adolescence, supporting children from their first newborn visit through their teenage years. Our pediatric services include routine well-child visits, vaccinations, sick visits, physical exams, developmental evaluations, and care for chronic conditions. Our team focuses on each stage of your child’s growth and development while providing families with consistent, compassionate care throughout childhood and the teen years.
2. How often does my child need a well-child visit?
Following American Academy of Pediatrics guidance, children typically have several well-child visits during their first year, followed by visits at recommended intervals throughout early childhood. Annual visits generally begin around age 3 and continue through adolescence. These appointments help monitor growth, development, behavior, nutrition, and overall health while allowing your pediatric provider to identify concerns early and keep recommended screenings and immunizations on schedule.
3. Do you offer same-day sick visits?
Yes. Georgia Family Care offers prompt pediatric sick visits when your child is experiencing an illness or other health concern. Our pediatric team can evaluate common childhood conditions such as colds, flu-like symptoms, ear infections, fevers, and seasonal illnesses. If your child becomes sick, contact the nearest Georgia Family Care location in Lithonia, Lawrenceville, Conyers, or Duluth to ask about same-day appointment availability.
4. Is a sports physical from GA Family Care accepted by GHSA schools?
Yes. Our pediatric providers complete the current Georgia High School Association (GHSA) pre-participation physical evaluation required for student athletes. Sports physicals help assess whether your child is ready to participate safely in athletic activities and identify potential health concerns. The evaluation is generally valid for 12 months from the date performed, or through the following school year when completed on or after April 1, as permitted by GHSA requirements.
5. What pediatric services are offered during a well-child visit?
A well-child visit provides an opportunity to review your child’s overall health and development. Depending on your child’s age, the visit may include measurements of height and weight, developmental or behavioral screening, physical examination, vision or hearing screening, immunizations, and discussions about nutrition, sleep, activity, and safety. Your pediatric provider can also answer questions about your child’s development and recommend follow-up care when needed.
6. Does Georgia Family Care provide childhood vaccinations?
Yes. Georgia Family Care provides routine childhood immunizations according to the recommended pediatric vaccination schedule. Vaccines help protect children against a range of preventable illnesses and are an important part of preventive pediatric care. During your child’s visit, your provider can review their immunization history, identify vaccines that may be due, and discuss any questions or concerns you have about keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date.
7. Can pediatric providers help with developmental or behavioral concerns?
Yes. Our pediatric services include support for behavioral, developmental, and school-performance concerns. If you notice changes in your child’s behavior, learning, communication, social skills, or development, our providers can discuss your concerns and perform an appropriate evaluation. When additional assessment or specialized care is needed, your provider can help guide your family toward the appropriate next steps while continuing to support your child’s overall health.
